Toyota teases FT-4X concept ahead of New York debut

Toyota teases FT-4X concept ahead of New York debut Details are thin, but it seems Toyota is bringing back the FJ Cruiser – in spirit, at leastBased on the teaser image, the FT-4X ought to satisfy fans of the dearly departed FJ Cruiser – based on the knobby tires, ride height and ground clearance, our best guess is that the FT-4X will set the tone for an off-road-ready SUV of some sort.

Speculations have been whirling about the next - generation Jeep Wrangler . The report from Jalopnik claims that the Wrangler could have up to six engine options , blowing the current generation JK, which only offers one, out of the water.

2018 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Leaked

 2018 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Leaked
Design updates are subtle
The first thing that Jeep fans will be happy to see is that the Wrangler continues to use a solid frame with a removable roof and doors. With all the body panels in place, the JL-series Wrangler looks a lot like the JK, bearing a similarly boxy profile. One thing you'll notice is that there's a vent behind the front fenders, possibly to aid aerodynamics. Those fenders are slightly different from the JK, and we can just barely make out the horizontal LED daytime running lights we've seen in past spy shots. The front bumper is also redesigned, with the foglights repositioned from the center to the edges.

Test mules of the next - generation 2018 Jeep Wrangler are being seen testing once again Whereas all JK models have offered just one engine option , initially the 3.8L OHV V- 6 and later the 3. 6 L The diesel could either be the 3.0L EcoDiesel V- 6 found in the Ram and Grand Cherokee or an I-4 diesel

The report from Jalopnik claims that the Wrangler could have up to six engine options, blowing the current generation JK, which only offers one, out of the water. The list of potential powerplants goes as follows:

 • Two versions of the 3.6L Pentastar V6
 • 3.0L and 2.2L diesel engines
 • Two versions of the 2.0L four cylinder.

All of this would make for a plug-and-play Wrangler that's suitable for everyone. We've seen Jeep testing diesel prototypes out in the open, and fans have long been begging for a combustion-ignition model; as it seems, they could even get two.

The current 3.6L Pentastar engine is a vast improvement over the previous 3.8L V6 found in Wranglers of old, so an updated version of it could be even better.

Watch Two Jeeps Trap a Mercedes-Benz After Its Driver Parks Like a Fool

Watch Two Jeeps Trap a Mercedes-Benz After Its Driver Parks Like a Fool
The Mercedes driver's reaction is priceless.
A video shared on YouTube Tuesday shows two Wrangler drivers parking their off-roaders within inches of a Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class that's parked in two spaces at a Best Buy parking lot. It appears that the idea here was that if the Benz driver was going to park like a douche, the Wrangler drivers could one-up that performance and give him a taste of his own medicine.

Report: The next Jeep Wrangler goes on a diet, to utilize more aluminum.

Marchionne said this week that the next - generation Jeep Wrangler may need to undergo radical changes in order to survive. It'll be offered with a smaller engine , Ford's 2.7 liter "EcoBoost" turbo V 6 -- though more powerful options will be available.

Lastly, the 2.0L four cylinder could help to keep the entry price for the model low in addition to providing increased fuel economy. Though we don't know many specifics, we assume that it could be sourced from somewhere else in the Fiat Chrysler parts bin.

The possible leak also claims a list of body configurations for the upcoming Jeep. Among these are:

 • Both two and four door models
 • Black Soft Top
 • Tan Soft Top
 • Body Color Hard Top
 • And a Power-Retracting Top

Each of these would further the idea of a have-it-your-way Jeep, so look out for these in the future.

FCA has declined comment on future models, so in the meantime, we'll continue to poke the hornet's nest and see what we can get out of it.

Will the Jeep Wrangler Pickup Look Like This? .

Unofficial renders preview first Jeep truck in 25 years
The front end should look familiar, as it's based on the Wrangler Unlimited renderings JL Wrangler Forums did earlier this year. Those renderings were based on leaked CAD drawings of the Wrangler Unlimited, so the front end probably isn't far off from production. The rest of the rendering is based on test mules we've seen in spy photos and the forums' own insider info. The creators have heard that the pickup variant, codenamed JT, won't have the same scoop behind the fender as the standard Wrangler, so that element is missing in these renders.
