Cruise AV is GM's first car without a steering wheel

Cruise AV is GM's first car without a steering wheel Cruise Automotive is taking the wraps off its first fully autonomous car, the Cruise AV, and it's a lot more than a Bolt EV without a brake pedal.Intended just for a GM-operated ride-sharing service, users will summon a Cruise AV using an app, much like they would if using a service like Lyft -- which GM also happens to own a fair bit of. Users can also input their destination through the app and the car will safely, silently usher them along.

General Motors ' car sharing service, Maven , is set to expand across the northern US border for the first time. It isn't just dipping its toes in the water, either -- at launch , Maven will offer 40 vehicles across GM 's vast portfolio, including several models of Chevrolet , GMC and Cadillac .

Maven will offer its car - sharing program in Ann Arbor, Michigan, initially focusing on serving faculty and students at the University of Michigan. GM vehicles will be available at 21 spots across the city. Additional city-based programs will launch in major U.S. metropolitan areas later this year.

“The launch of Maven follows the recent opening of our Canadian Technical Centre – Markham Campus, the largest automotive technology development centre of its kind in Canada and furthers our ability to bring new solutions to existing problems and redefine the future of mobility in Toronto and beyond.”
