Alfa Romeo To Electrify Future Large SUV

Alfa Romeo To Electrify Future Large SUV Alfa Romeo says it's working on a large SUV model that will be the brand's first vehicle to use an electrified powertrain. Roberto Fedeli, the Italian brand's chief technical officer, told the UK's Auto Express that Alfa Romeo says it's working on a large SUV model that will be the brand's first vehicle to use an electrified powertrain.

According to its sources, the next Focus RS , due in 2020, will be a mild- hybrid that will not only increase overall efficiency, but output as well. How does at least 400 hp and 425 lb-ft of torque sound to you?

The next RS is getting 400 hp and a mild- hybrid system. At least according to a new report from Autocar. It makes sense that the next Focus RS will get more powerful, but automakers are also pushing to improve fuel economy.

When the second-generation Ford Focus RS returns in 2020, it will boast 400 horsepower from a 48-volt mild hybrid drivetrain as part of a massive investment to create 40 new electrified models.

The news comes from a Dutch publication called AutoInternationaal.nl.

That report says Ford will invest 10 billion Euros -- about CAD$16 billion by today's exchange rate -- to develop 40 electrified models, including the new hybrid RS.

As in the 2018 Ford Focus RS, combustion power will once again come from a 2.3L turbocharged EcoBoost four-cylinder engine. That llump is good for 350 hp and 350 lb-ft in the current RS (whose limited production run recently ended) but that hybrid setup is expected to bump horsepower to the 400 mark and add more than 40 lb-ft of torque, for a total close to 400 lb-ft.

That’s the rumor from Dutch publication , which reported last week that the next -generation Focus RS will sport a 48-volt mild- hybrid system to boost power. The claimed figure is a nice, round 400 horsepower. Right now, Ford’s hottest of hot hatches makes 350 hp

If these rumored figures are correct, then the Focus RS will have similar specs as Mercedes-Benz's next -gen A45. The German brand's hot hatch will use a brand new 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder with over 400 hp .

Along with the new powertrain, Ford is apparently working on a dual-clutch automatic transmission for North America, though it isn't clear whether it will be standard or if a manual will be available too.

What's clear is the car promises to be fast, with a four-second 0-100 km/h acceleration sprint in the offing. The outgoing RS is good for about 4.5 seconds to triple-digit speeds.

In the meantime, Ford is expected to unveil the standard version of the next-gen Focus next month, with an ST variant to follow in 2019.

Alfa Romeo To Cash In On High-Performance Hybrid Hype .
Alfa Romeo reportedly has an eye on expanding its SUV lineup and adding hybrid propulsion as a powertrain option as it prepares to lay the next plank of its future in North America. According to the UK's Autocar magazine, Fiat Chrysler boss Sergio Marchionne will next month announce the brand's plan to roll out a mid-size crossover to position above the Stelvio, and a coupe version of the Giulia sport sedan, both of which will supposedly be offered with hybrid powertrains. These hybrids will not be out for fuel economy supremacy.
