Now, Lexus wants all of its cars to have some of the dynamic flavor of the LC , and yes, that includes the new baby UX crossover it showed at Geneva. Of course, we don't expect a small crossover with a four-cylinder motor and a CVT to drive like the magnificent, rear- drive V8-powered LC 500—the UX

In its Super Bowl 51 ad, Lexus changed its longstanding marketing tagline. Lexus is no longer, “The Pursuit of Perfection,” but now it wants you to “Experience Amazing.” That said, it still looks very much like the LF- LC concept. Concept car looks aren’t hyperbolic on this Lexus .

The Lexus LC drives as good as it looks, which is to say that it drives really well. In fact, it's probably our favorite Lexus since the LFA, which in case you forgot, cost nearly four times as much when new. Now, Lexus wants all of its cars to have some of the dynamic flavor of the LC, and yes, that includes the new baby UX crossover it showed at Geneva.

At the show, we caught up with Chika Kako, Lexus's first female chief engineer and the woman who led development of the UX, who revealed the interesting links between Lexus' baby crossover and its flagship coupe. Frankly, she got us a lot more interested in the UX than we were when we first saw it.

Lexus Open To The Idea Of LFA Successor

Lexus Open To The Idea Of LFA Successor "So you're telling me there's a chance?"Between December 2010 and December 2012, Lexus assembled a total of 500 LFAs and 10 percent of the production was reserved for the hardcore version equipped with the Nürburgring Package. Despite being hugely desirable, there were still a dozen of brand new LFAs waiting in stock at dealerships in the United States in August last year, so it’s safe to say the model wasn’t exactly a huge commercial success. Since the supercar’s demise, many rumors emerged about a possible follow-up to the V10 machine, even though Lexus kept saying no.

(Full disclosure: Lexus wanted us to drive the 2018 LC 500 so badly that it let us beg and wheedle With its near 0,000 price tag, it ’ s unlikely that buyers will flock to buy the LC 500, the fact that I am of the belief that cars should make you feel something, whether you are driving them or seeing

Where every other luxury car is content to blend in, the new LC 500 wants to shake up its segment—and it looks like it stands a good chance of SEVILLE, Spain—The Lexus LC 500 defies all logic, all sense about what a sports car or grand tourer or I’m-not-really-sure-what-it-is should be.

"We are trying to have the same feeling in all the Lexus models starting from LC and LS," Kako said through a interpreter. "Even if we have totally different structures, we are always comparing with the LC."

Kako used two interesting words to define the driving characteristics Lexus is aiming for - clear and deep. I'll let her explain what they mean in context.

"Clear means being very responsive to your inputs. . .a clear steering feel where your input translates directly to your output. Deep is more about having the secure feel and confidence."

Lexus uses master "Takumi" drivers in the final stages of development to make sure the tuning on all of its cars is just right. Kako told us that the Takumi who signed off on the UX is the same guy who gave final approval for the LC. And even Toyota president Akio Toyoda - a keen racer himself - has to sign off on each car before it reaches production.

The brand-new Lexus LC ranks high in the luxury sports car class with its sophisticated cabin and striking performance. If you want a vehicle that turns heads and drives like a supercar, the NSX is a fine choice.

To put it another way, this is a car you want , not a car you need. And we lust after the LC 500. Not because it checks all the boxes, but because it ’ s more than the sum of its specifications. In fact, after driving the LC , I’m done doubting Lexus . With cars like the LFA, RC F and GS F, it ’ s difficult to pan

In the case of the UX, Kako and her team aimed for a more hatchback-esque driving feel, benchmarking cars like the Audi A3, Mercedes A-Class and BMW 1-Series. The UX rides on the same platform as the new Toyota CH-R but it uses aluminum throughout for lighter weight and a lower center of gravity. Additionally, the UX has nine-percent more torsional rigidity than the CH-R and over half of its suspension components are bespoke.

Of course, we don't expect a small crossover with a four-cylinder motor and a CVT to drive like the magnificent, rear-drive V8-powered LC500 - the UX won't defy the laws of physics. But, if it at least has some of the character of the big coupe, it might be better than most subcompact luxury SUVs.
