Here's Why You Should Avoid Traveling the Day After Christmas

Here's Why You Should Avoid Traveling the Day After Christmas Seriously, do not book a flight on December 26. According to the experts at KAYAK, the fare aggregator and travel search site, it's the most expensive day of the entire year to fly domestically within the United States.Since Christmas falls on a Monday this year, KAYAK also predicts that flight prices will surge the Wednesday and Thursday beforehand as people build in a long weekend around the holiday. Our advice? Start your Christmas trip a little bit later this year-perhaps as late as Christmas Eve-and stay until December 28 or so to find the best fares.

Christmas morning, the family eats a hardy breakfast before heading off to church. They stick with the same meal year after year.’ After lunch, they all sit down to watch the Queen ’s Christmas speech (surely an odd moment…?).

Former royal chef Darren McGrady has opened up about the royal family's Christmas menu traditions and said, 'It's your modern day Downton Abbey!'.

Some only eat after the Queen's Speech, others can't enjoy Christmas dinner without Brussels sprouts, and for some the main event is the pigs in blankets. (It's the brandy cream, for us.)

But how different are we to the royal family in terms of our festive traditions?

A former royal chef has revealed some of the royal family's favourite Christmas rituals, so if you really wanted to, you could follow suit and enjoy Christmas dinner like the Queen this year.

This Pizza Is A Christmas Feast...But On A Pizza

This Pizza Is A Christmas Feast...But On A Pizza When you think about it, pizza is kind of already the perfect Christmas food. The colors are very on-brand for the holiday. Traditional Italian pizza is already white (thanks to mozzarella cheese) and red (courtesy of tomato sauce). Sprinkle some oregano and basical on top, and it's basically Santa's hat, complete with a sprig of holly. But that's not good enough for British supermarket Asda, who wants to make pizza as Christmas-y as possible. According to Cosmopolitan, a Christmas dinner-themed pizza is coming to Asda stores, and it sounds...well, a little confusing.

This guy lost 117 pounds by eating the same thing every single day for an entire year. ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ star Ellen Pompeo reveals what inspired her to turn her kids McGrady says, “ the queen is a major chocoholic, particularly dark chocolate, so she always has a chocolate treat on Christmas .

This is what the royal family eat on Christmas Day . He said to Cosmopolitan that the family head to Sandringham House in Norfolk for the celebrations, with the Queen arriving on December 19 or 20, and the family joining on Christmas Eve.

During an interview for The Independent, chef Darren McGrady explains that the royals get together each holiday season at Sandringham House, their private residence in Norfolk, where they spend two days celebrating.

But, when it comes to the set up, Darren reveals that it might not be as luxurious as you might expect.

So what are their main eating traditions?

On Christmas morning, the royal family visit the church and then return home to eat. They "stick with the same meal year after year," not deviating from their firm favourite.

But what do they tuck into on the big day ? And do they indulge in cheesy Christmas movies and open stockings in pjs? After everyone has finished tucking into their food, the Royal Family gathers to watch the Queen ’s Christmas speech.

Darren reveals that they prefer to feast at lunchtime on Christmas Day, rather than in the evening, and eat "salad with shrimp or lobster, a roasted turkey, and all of your traditional side dishes like parsnips, carrots, Brussels sprouts, and Christmas pudding with brandy butter for dessert."

One of the sweetest aspects to the dinner is that Her Royal Highness takes the opportunity to serve those who usually serve her.

"Right before the Christmas buffet, the senior chef on duty goes into the dining room and carves the rib roast or turkey or ham and once he's done, Her Majesty presents the chef with a glass of whiskey and they toast," Darren recalls. "That's the only time the chef goes into the dining room and has a glass of whiskey with the royal family. It's one of the chef's favourite traditions."

This Is How Much the British Royal Family Spent on Travel in 2017

This Is How Much the British Royal Family Spent on Travel in 2017 Travel, for the British royal family, is no pedestrian task. Although the Queen never has to worry about carrying a passport, the ease stops there; from the requisite security phalanx to the private jets, an international trip for the House of Windsor is a considerable to-do. (Kate and William do always break this one royal family travel rule, however.) But exactly how much money does it cost to subsidize the royal family's business life abroad? (Here are 10 royal family traditions you should try this year.)The Express took a look at the numbers behind the family’s travel expenses and the tab is sizable.

Queen Victoria's Tomb Set to Open to the Public For the First Time in More Than a Decade .
Queen Victoria‘s grave will soon be open again for public visitation. Victoria and her husband Prince Albert are buried at the Royal Mausoleum, which is on the grounds of Frogmore House (where Prince Harry and Meghan Markle took their official engagement shots at the end of last year). Frogmore House itself sits next door to Windsor Castle and has even been named as a possible reception venue for Harry and Meghan. And since 2007, the royal burial site has been closed to visitors because it was deemed unstable due to flooding damage.
