  Mississauga townhouse fire injures 2 firefighters, damages at least 10 units An early morning townhouse complex fire in Mississauga has slightly injured two firefighters, displaced at least 25 people and damaged between 10 to 12 units, a fire official says. Platoon Chief Alan Hills, of Mississauga Fire and Emergency Services, said crews were called to 1560 Bloor St., near Havenwood Drive, east of Dixie Road, at 2:13 a.m. on Saturday for a report of a townhouse unit on fire.One firefighter suffered heat exhaustion, while the other suffered a leg injury. Both firefighters were transported by Peel Regional Paramedic Services to a local hospital and their injuries are considered minor.

“It was such a loud bang … My son thought it was thunder, but it was a huge explosion,” said Mary Zilba, whose condo overlooks the marina. “I ran over to the window and there was a massive cloud of black smoke. People are saying that lightning hit the boat, but it’s speculation.”

Eight fire trucks and a Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services fireboat attacked the blaze.

A plume of thick, black smoke from the burning pleasure-craft could be seen for kilometres.

Ash rained down on neighbouring vessels in the marina, including the $30-million, 150-foot super yacht, After Eight. 

“All the other boats were getting out of there,” said Zilba. “The After Eight took off so fast … I couldn’t believe how fast its crew scrambled to get the yacht out of there.”

The flames were contained to one boat, but a nearby vessel did suffer some heat damage, according to the Vancouver fire department.

False Creek Ferries suspended water-taxi service to Quayside Marina due to the fire.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
