  Stabbing, home invasion, shots fired as North Battleford sees violent week A spate of crime broke out in North Battleford, Sask., over the past week,RCMP haven't confirmed whether any of the incidents are related, but have said they do not believe they were random acts of crime.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau took time to meet customers and staff at the Hometown Diner while in Saskatoon for meetings. He said he used his visit to North Battleford to highlight things his government is doing.

Following an evening meet-and-greet in North Battleford, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau wrapped up a whirlwind visit to Saskatchewan with breakfast in Saskatoon.

Trudeau was in the province Thursday night to prop up Liberal Party candidate Larry Ingram, who is running the Battlefords-Lloydminster byelection. On Friday morning, Trudeau made an appearance at Saskatoon restaurant Hometown Diner.

Also running in the byelection are Rosemary Ashley Falk (Conservative Party), Matt Fedler (NDP), Ken Finlayson (Independent) and Yvonne Potter-Pihach (Green Party).

The seat became vacant after the retirement of longtime Conservative Party MP Gerry Ritz earlier this year.

In Saskatoon, Trudeau admitted rural Saskatchewan has been a challenge for the Liberals. He said he used his visit to North Battleford to highlight things his government is doing.

“Making sure the canola farmers have continued market access to China. Making sure we’re increasing beef opportunities as well. We’ve moved forward on delivering pipelines while showing leadership on the environment,” he said during the stop at the diner.

“These are the kinds of things that matter to people in Saskatchewan and it was great to show people that we take their concerns very seriously.”
