Toronto police Const. Allyson Douglas-Cook said officers were just around the corner from the scene, near Eglinton Ave. and Birchmount Rd., when the call came in at around 6:15 p.m.

The woman had no vital signs when she was freed from under the truck, Douglas-Cook added. Paramedics performed CPR, but were unable to revive her.

She was rushed to hospital in critical condition. Douglas-Cook later confirmed that the woman succumbed to her injuries.

Live footage from CP24 showed what appeared to be a red Canada Post truck stopped inside the police tape.

Douglas-Cook said the driver remained at the scene.

Eglinton Ave. has been closed both ways between Birchmount Rd. and Ironview Rd.

Police said the road will be closed for an “extensive period” while an investigation is conducted.

No charges have been laid.
