A 27-year-old man accused of murdering his father on a Cochin, Sask.-area property remained in custody following his first court appearance.

Joshua Roy Tucker appeared Monday in North Battleford provincial court, charged with second-degree murder in the May 31 death of 59-year-old Gordon Ernest Tucker. Joshua Tucker is scheduled to appear again on June 11.

Joshua Tucker was arrested without incident after RCMP found the body of Gordon Tucker. Police initially responded to the property after receiving a report on May 31.

Police immediately considered the death suspicious. On Friday, RCMP said a person of interest had been taken into custody but that no charges had been laid. On Sunday, RCMP announced that Joshua Tucker had been charged.

Gordon Tucker is listed as an owner of Dancing Spirits Farm in the North Battleford area. The status of the business, which was first registered in February 1995, is listed in Saskatchewan’s corporate registry (ISC) as inactive. In February 2010, its registration expired.

The website for the business remains online. Gordon Tucker, Joshua Tucker and Kim Tucker are listed on the website as operators of the horse farm.

According to Kim Tucker, the wife of Gordon and mother of Joshua, the family plans to issue a public statement on Tuesday.
