A serious collision involving two trucks on Hwy. 403 in Mississauga Monday afternoon resulted in one man dying in hospital and left the other person with minor injuries, Peel paramedics say.

Police responded to the call just before 2:30 p.m. on Hwy. 403 eastbound at Mavis Rd. A septic truck hit the back of a parked transport truck, said OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt. He said the transport truck was sitting on the right shoulder as it was getting fixed by a maintenance company.

A 27-year-old man from Milton was rushed to hospital without vital signs where he was later pronounced dead, Schmidt said. Another person was transported to hospital with minor injuries.

All eastbound lanes on Hwy. 403 between Mavis Rd. and Hurontario St. are closed for a police investigation and may not open for several hours, Schmidt said.

A multi-vehicle collision has shut down the express lanes on Hwy. 401 near Yonge St. and sent three people to hospital. Paramedics say they responded to the scene around 12:30 a.m. and transported three patients to trauma centres. One of the patients had to be extricated from the vehicle they were in, a process that took an extended period of time. Of the three, two have serious injuries, and one has non life-threatening. The highway’s express lanes remain closed in both directions. That includes eastbound lanes closed at Allen Rd. The collector lanes are open. It is not known when the lanes are expected to reopen.
