The family of Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell issued a statement Friday questioning whether his death by hanging was intentional and if "substances contributed to his demise."

"Without the results of toxicology tests, we do not know what was going on with Chris," Kirk Pasich, an attorney for the Cornell family said. "Chris, a recovering addict, had a prescription for Ativan and may have taken more Ativan than recommended dosages. The family believes that if Chris took his life, he did not know what he was doing, and that drugs or other substances may have affected his actions."

Chris Cornell was 'aggressive' during last conversation with wife .
Chris Cornell's wife had some serious concerns about the rocker before he took his life, a new report claims. Vicky Karayiannis told friends and family that Cornell became "aggressive" during their final conversation and kept complaining about the Detroit concert and his crew, TMZ reports. Karayiannis spoke to Cornell about a half hour before his May 17 death. The Soundgarden frontman, 52, committed suicide in his hotel room a few hours after performing a show. The outlet reports that Karayiannis began to suspect something was wrong when the lights in her home started flickering. Cornell, who was able to control the lights with his cell phone, denied he was responsible. The phone call then switched to Cornell venting to Karayiannis about the show he just performed. The singer, who was said to have been slurring his words, was frustrated about sound problems. "They f---ed up again," he allegedly told his wife. "They had three days to fix my in-ears and I was getting static. I couldn't hear. I blew my voice." As the call continued, Karayiannis began to ask the rocker if he had taken any pills. TMZ reports that Karayiannis didn't believe Cornell only took Ativan and asked him if he had taken anything else. At one point during the conversation, she said his tone became "cocky and aggressive.
