After their teams were swept in the first round of the NHL playoffs, star forwards Johnny Gaudreau and Patrick Kane have decided to extend their seasons.

Gaudreau tallied just two assists in the Calgary Flames’ four-game loss to the Anaheim Ducks, while Kane contributed a goal and an assist as the top-seeded Chicago Blackhawks were swept by the Nashville Predators.

I'm in the second chapter of my life. I have a lot of things I now want to accomplish. I'm realizing that more and more. This is a really cool opportunity for me to do some things I was not able to do when I was swimming.'' These days, Phelps is enjoying his family and participating in a few sponsorships including a new deal with Colgate. The 31-year-old Phelps has called his swimming career overfor now. ''I never had that moment before to sit back and think about what I had done," Phelps said. "I'm so stoked that I came back for (the 2016) Olympics. One look at the play of heralded Flames rookie Johnny Gaudreau and it’s easy to see the kid’s a star. Despite his small stature Internationally, both forwards scored 9 points in 7 games for Team USA at the IIHF World Junior Championship . Kane did so in 2007, finishing with a bronze medal.

In his final season of play before entering the NHL, Kane posted 145 points in 58 games for the OHL’s London Knights. Gaudreau ’s final season for Boston College prior to this season saw Internationally, both forwards scored 9 points in 7 games for Team USA at the IIHF World Junior Championship .

The Americans take on Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Italy and Russia with games beginning on May 5.
