The San Jose Sharks played a dominant two periods against the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday night. In the third period, up by one goal, the Sharks decided to park the bus, calling off the attack and clogging up the neutral zone. The strategy almost worked, as Edmonton only had one, measly Grade B chance for the first 17 minutes of the third. The game seemed over, with the Oilers out of it and heading to San Jose for an elimination game.

But then came lighting, Oscar Klefbom, the Oil’s MVP in this series so far, slamming home a winning shot on an excellent wide and low drive and good feed from David Desharnais — everyone’s favourite Edmonton Oilers whipping boy turned everyone’s favourite Oilers for a night.

Having parked the bus, San Jose found it evidently impossible to get out of “park” in overtime, which Edmonton dominated, outchancing the Sharks 8 to 0.

But, overall in the series, San Jose has had 36 Grade A scoring chances  to 30 for the Oilers.

Here’s why San Jose almost won Thursday’s game and will continue to give the Oilers all they can handle until this series has a winner, one team or the other.
