Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was in Atlanta with his team on Sunday. Joining him at the new stadium in Atlanta was Falcons owner Arthur Blank.
The two obviously have seen drama overtake their relationship, especially after Jones himself went with a potential nuclear option. That included Jones hiring world-renowned lawyer David Boies to help block an extension for NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell (more on that here).
Now comes this report from Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio suggesting that multiple NFL owners have discussed the possibility of forcing Jones out from his current position as Cowboys owner.
Group of NFL Owners Warns Jerry Jones and Threatens Penalties
Fines, taking draft picks and a suspension are possible penalties for Jones, the Cowboys’ owner, who has escalated a fight over Roger Goodell’s contract. The warning to Jones, which was issued by the six owners on the NFL compensation committee after the group held a conference call Monday, comes less than two weeks after he threatened to sue the league and the owners on the committee who have been working for months on a new contract for Goodell.
No one absorbs more shots from the media than the owner of the Dallas Cowboys . “You can hit Jerry right upside the head. He’ll just bounce back up with a grin on his face and keep That forced Jones to go on the record himself. In the next morning’s paper, the reporters had their exclusive.
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones released a statement tonight reiterating the team’s support for defensive end This Is Why NFL Star Greg Hardy Was Arrested For Assaulting His Ex-Girlfriend. Barefoot and frightened, Nicole Holder walked as fast as she could through the darkness, and the…
“They could, in theory, attempt to trigger forfeiture of the Dallas franchise,” Florio reported. “A league source with knowledge of the situation tells PFT that multiple owners already have been discussing the possibility, which flows from Article VIII of the NFL’s Constitution & Bylaws.”
The action would be under the guise of Goodell himself concluding that Jones “has been or is guilty of conduct detrimental to the welfare of the League or professional football.” Under the current CBA, this is well within Goodell’s power.
It’s not yet known just how viable this option might be. But at the very least, it’s something owners themselves are discussing. That qualifies as some rather huge news around the NFL.
