Leafs’ travelling road show is an act that can wear thin

Leafs’ travelling road show is an act that can wear thin VANCOUVER—In every city it’s the same hymnbooks, as it’s always been: a single anthem, then the sound of clashing loyalties. The arenas were half-filled with blue and white in Calgary, in Edmonton, in Vancouver. It’s been this way forever, here and in Ottawa, too. It’s both religion — Canadian religion, mind — and math. And so, every Leafs game out here is full of atmosphere, and is a joyous clash. In Edmonton, the duelling chants of “Let’s Go Oilers” and “Go Leafs Go” reached a pas-a-deux crescendo; in Calgary, the fight was simultaneous, with “Go Flames Go” and “Go Leafs Go” overlaid on one another.

As the Leafs begin a set of three road games in four days, we have news that Kasperi Kapanen has joined the team.

Kapanen has played 16 games for the Marlies and has eight goals and four assists, putting him in fourth place on the team in points per game.

Maple Leafs loan forwards Kapanen , Leipsic to AHL's Toronto Marlies.

Kasperi Kapanen .

By waiting until today to call him up, the Leafs take advantage of the Holiday Roster Freeze rules which allow them to return any player called up after December 11 right through the period of the roster freeze. This way they aren’t locked into returning him before December 19 or keeping him until December 28.

As far as Nikita Soshnikov goes, I think we can all expect him to need a conditioning loan to the Marlies when this injury clears up. That sure seems to be the way the wind is blowing to me.
