The Houston Astros reportedly made a key addition to their starting rotation, acquiring Gerrit Cole from the Pittsburgh Pirates, a source told Jon Morosi of MLB Network.

The return for the Pirates isn't yet known.

The 27-year-old Cole is entering his second year of salary arbitration and is under team control through the 2019 season.

Last year, the Astros had the sixth-best starting rotation in all of baseball, according to FanGraphs' WAR. They added Justin Verlander late in the year en route to the club's first World Series title in franchise history.
