Valiev was called up when the Maple Leafs placed fellow blueliner Morgan Rielly on injured reserve on Jan. 22 but he did not appear in a game. The 22-year-old Valiev has registered one goal and seven assists in 29 games with the Marlies this season. He skated in 10 games for the Maple Leafs during the 2015-16 season but failed to register a point. BOSTON – Mike Babcock said Saturday he was unaware of the reported trade request made by Toronto Maple Leafs depth winger Josh Leivo ahead of the NHL’s Feb. 26 trade deadline.

According to Sportsnet’s Nick Kypreos, Leivo requested to Lamoriello that he either be inserted into the lineup or traded this month.

Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported that winger Nikita Soshnikov, currently playing for the Toronto Marlies on a conditioning stint, may be showcased for a trade as well.

Following the Leafs’ 4-1 loss to the Bruins in Boston, the Toronto head coach referred reporters to general manager Lou Lamoriello on the matter.

Everyone covering the Leafs practice today says Roman Polak is in on the third pair with Travis Dermott, and one of Andreas Borgman or Connor Carrick is out. Polak back in tonight, Babcock won't say who sits though Carrick and Borgman were last D-men off the ice in morning skate.

Josh Leivo has come out of the shadows, but not yet into the Maple Leafs lineup. That turned out to be Holland’s wish to be traded . Babcock says Leivo will have to earn his way into the lineup, though he’s certainly ready in a physical sense after all that practising.

There's been a trade inquiry made out to the Toronto Maple Leafs regarding Josh Leivo . I think everyone's a fan of Leivo and would love to see him suit up TORONTO, ON - FEBRUARY 23: Josh Leivo .

“I couldn’t tell ya. Neither guy has asked me for that, but you can talk to Lou about that if you want,” Babcock said.

Subsequently, he's reportedly requested a trade, Sportsnet's Nick Kypreos said Saturday during Hockey Night in Canada's "Headlines" segment.

The Toronto Maple Leafs will scratch Josh Leivo Monday versus the Columbus Blue Jackets. Head coach Mike Babcock confirmed earlier today that the Maple Leafs won't be making any changes to their lineup tonight outside their goalie change.

“As far as Leivs goes, he hasn’t got a lot of opportunity to play, but I’d talk to Lou if I was you about that. I know nothing.”

Leivo signed a one-year, $925,000 extension in mid-November.

“He’s a player that we like,” Babcock said at that time. “So if you like a guy, why wouldn’t you [re-sign him]?”
