Ron & Don: NHL needs to straighten out goalie interference calls

Ron & Don: NHL needs to straighten out goalie interference calls When it comes to the great goalie interference debate, Don Cherry is just as puzzled as the rest of us. Thursday’s controversial goal review between the Winnipeg Jets and Vegas Golden Knights only made things more confusing, as officials opted not to overturn a goal that saw Golden Knights forward James Neal slash Jets goalie Connor Hellebuyck square in the mask during a skirmish in the crease. Cherry discussed the play during his segment on Hockey Night in Canada.

So credit to the New York Rangers for making sure to have some fun with their emergency backup, who hopefully gets to keep this EXTREMELY nice “ McBackup ” No . 69 jersey. My roommate is the emergency backup goalie for the @NYRangers and this is the jersey they stick him with

Emergency goalies are paid 0 and allowed to keep their game- worn jerseys. “It’s part of the game,” lamented Rangers coach Alain Vigneault, whose No. 1 goalie was thrust into the game trailing 1-0.

Being an emergency goaltender for an NHL franchise can be a bizarre gig. You’ll probably never get to play in a game, but you’re regularly on call just in case one of the team’s actual netminders goes down, even if you’re just at home watching the game on TV.

Look at how happy that guy is.

The Power Rangers may remain on TV until the end of time, but there’s one thing that always changes: their uniforms . Some are stylish, some are understated, some are bonkers—and it’s high time that they were ranked. All of them.

Nobody in the NHL currently wears No. 69, so this would’ve been a very unique opportunity for the league to get the nicest number of all the numbers into the lineup. It might be time to propose a league rule: Every emergency goaltender should be required to wear No. 69.

Senators, Rangers face off with eye on trade deadline .
OTTAWA -- Matt Duchene is doing his best to keep his left winger in Ottawa Senators colors. While trade speculation has Mike Hoffman possibly on the move, he and Duchene have formed a fast and deadly duo, which was on display most recently in the Senators' 3-1 victory over Buffalo on Thursday.Duchene's third assist of the night helped set up Hoffman's overtime winner."I think we have a great group in here and it's not for me to speculate and make decisions, but we're playing really well together," said Duchene, who now has seven goals and 19 points in his last 18 games, while Hoffman has four goals in his past six games.
