Report: At least two teams willing to offer Cousins fully guaranteed deal

Report: At least two teams willing to offer Cousins fully guaranteed deal Kirk Cousins could very well become the highest paid player in NFL history when he signs with a new team in the coming days, and there’s a chance he could achieve that by demanding a fully guaranteed contract. There has been some talk that Cousins may want to sign only a three-year deal with all of the money being guaranteed. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports that at least two teams — and possibly three — are willing to give him a contract like that. As the Kirk Cousins sweepstakes heats up, sources say at least 2 teams are prepared to offer the free agent QB a 3-year, fully guaranteed contract if that’s what it takes. At least one other team will do a similar deal nearly fully guaranteed. Would make him the highest paid QB. — Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) March 12, 2018 By signing a deal like that, Cousins would have more control over his future. Jimmy Garoppolo recently signed a five-year, $137.5 million extension with the 49ers, and Matthew Stafford got a five-year, $135 million contract from the Detroit Lions last offseason. Both players will earn about $87 million over the first three years of their respective deals, so Cousins is likely aiming for a three-year contract in the $90 million range. Cousins is trying to balance winning with being paid top dollar, so the three-year, fully guaranteed contract would make the most sense for a team like the Jets.

Kirk Cousins plans to sign a three - year , fully guaranteed contract with the Minnesota Vikings once free agency officially opens Wednesday afternoon, according to a NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported earlier Tuesday the Vikings have offered him a three - year deal worth roughly million.

Cousins has started every game in Washington for the past three seasons, throwing for more than 13,000 yards and 81 touchdown passes while leading the franchise to %2Ffootball%2Fnfl%2Freport-kirk- cousins - plans - sign - fully - guaranteed - deal - vikings %2F. Join the Conversation.

The Minnesota Vikings pounced early to land free agency's biggest prize.

Kirk Cousins plans to sign a three-year, fully guaranteed contract with the team Thursday, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The deal is worth $86 million "or so," according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Cousins is set to have dinner with Vikings coaches and personnel Wednesday night once the 2018 league year has officially begun, sources told Rapaport, and will make his first visit to the team's facility Thursday.

The move comes shortly after it was reported that Case Keenum intends to sign with the Denver Broncos at the official beginning of free agency.

Cousins was widely regarded as the top quarterback on the free-agent market, and the No. 1 target of the Vikings and several other QB-needy teams.

Crazy stat shows how unbalanced QB pay scale has become .
With NFL free agency in full swing, it is hard to ignore the quarterback pay scale. As it stands, the top four highest-paid quarterbacks in the league are now Kirk Cousins, Jimmy Garoppolo, Matthew Stafford and Derek Carr. Do we see a Super Bowl champion quarterback among these names? Of course not. But it gets worse. The two highest paid QBs have zero playoff wins between them. Lol. Happy NFL new year! — Kalyn Kahler (@kalynkahler) March 14, 2018 Actually, the top FOUR have zero playoff wins combined. Which is less than Tim Tebow has … all by himself. — Albert Breer (@AlbertBreer) March 14, 2018 Happy new year indeed. The Minnesota Vikings just made Cousins the highest-paid player in the league, and he now will earn a bloated annual salary of $28 million, fully guaranteed. He has been in two playoff games and lost both. When it comes to Garoppolo’s $27.5 million annual salary, the 49ers had to pay an exorbitant price to keep him long term. If they did not, another team would have. Jimmy G. is talented, but he literally has seven official NFL starts under his belt. Stafford as the third-highest paid makes the most sense here. He’s got an arm like cannon and is the Lions’ all-time leading passer with 34,749 yards on the books. It is just too bad Detroit can barely get into the postseason, let alone win a playoff game. Lastly, Carr makes a lofty $25 million and has not stepped foot in a postseason game. What’s also a bit worrisome is he regressed across the board in 2017. All the while, the eighth-highest paid quarterback is Joe Flacco at $22.13 million per year. He earns more than Aaron Rodgers, Russell Wilson, Ben Roethlisberger and Tom Brady. Those top four quarterbacks we mentioned won’t stay the highest-paid forever. But, it is what it is and things look terribly lopsided on the quarterback pay scale for now.
